I loved "Miller's Crossing" and some of the others. I haven't heard of some of them and will have to check them out. I did a similar list recently on my blog called "10 movies you've never seen, but should." These were my 10 picks:
1. Dancer in the Dark
2. Oldboy
3. City of God
4. Sleeper
5. Withnail and I
6. Company
7. Box of Moonlight
8. The Up Series
9. Once
10. Thirteen Conversations About One Thing

We're getting close to "end of the year" list time and I just wanted to comment that if I had to create my list tonight I think this would be no. 1. I've listened to it consistently all year and only grown to love it more.

Hell, Gosling makes ME pretty aware of my wedding ring, too...if you know what I'm saying.

I'm saying I'm totally gay for Ryan Gosling.

I don't think I've wanted to see a movie this much since Tree of Life, but more so because the movie looks "frickin' rad" instead of "artfully insightful and complex".

This takes me back to my origins where love was akin to profound fear, justice was meted out painfully, and fear of authority replaced reason in cognitive development. Very effective in establishing and maintaining totalitarian control, but Christ, the divine liberator, is absent.
On a lighter note, it is amusing how such uptight strictures (don't even want to explore the possible sexual connotations of the phrase "uptight strictures":) do promote obsession with all things sexual. I myself have never known, nor heard tell of any among my acquaintance who "struggled with the sin of bestiality." Must be a fundamentalist thing?

Ha,ha... thought of Riley first (one of his favorite books in grade school.)... Then you!!! Remember the series of books you and your Aunt were writing. yes, you definately have your own brand of humor and I can't wait to see if on the BIG screen!
